Comment on Filling in the Blanks of My Life by Julie Anderson http://denisemcgee.com/filling-in-the-blanks-of-my-life/#comment-90 Thu, 13 Mar 2014 02:57:04 +0000 http://denisemcgee.com/?p=1101#comment-90 Good for you, Denise. I have always been of the thought that education should not have to be bought, and in Australia getting a University degree was completely free until about 25 years ago. Now it costs approx $3,000 to $7,000 a year, but you can opt to not pay it until you have your degree and are earning over a certain amount.

I wish you all the very best with your studies.

Write something short and fun-to-write, and offer that to someone (or sometwo) who knows your first book. Then ask them to be honest.

Do _not_ make the shorty a quicky. Write it as serious as you would do a novel. Make the quality count, and don’t hit yourself over the head if you feel it’s not good enough. Let your reader(s) decide along with you.

I would have left also. A help group should help with ideas, resources and with vocal encouragement. Proud of you!

But it really goes much quicker than I ever expected. I just take it one chapter at a time. 🙂

Let me know how it works out for you!

After spending way too much time trying to smooth all the rough edges, I think your idea of retyping the whole thing is probably the best route. It would be too easy to leave in stuff that needs to go and too easy to let what’s there be good enough. It’s not something I want to do, but it’s good advice. Thanks.
